Dell’orchestra e del coro: influence of Italian music on Spanish music

The overture in 19th-century operas was, even with the curtain down, a presentation of the dramatic and musical action of the work that it introduced. Following this model, the opening concert of the Festival de Música Antigua de Úbeda y Baeza 2019 aims to offer some examples of the geographical centres on which this edition of the Festival is focused. The influence of Italian music on that from Spain be present throughout the concert, which includes pieces by authors of both nationalities, from the Middle Ages (Llibre Vermell of Montserrat), until the middle of the 19th century (Miserere by Eslava).

Agrupación Coral Ubetense. Born in 1979 in the surroundings of the Parish Church of San Juan Bautista (Sa. Fa.) under the coordination and direction of Ramón Ramos Carrero, the Agrupación Coral Ubetense has carried the name of our city throughout Spain, participating in national and international competitions, and sharing scenarios and experiences with musical groups of all kinds (bands and symphonic orchestras, camera groups, Medieval and Renaissance music groups, Tuparis Indians of the Amazon, choral masses to perform great symphonic-choral works, or film music at international conferences).

Coral Polifónica de Baeza. On January 29, 2011, at the General Assembly of Partners, the creation of the Coral Polifónica de Baeza was approved and Antonio Carmona Barroso was appointed as its Head Director. Since then, the CPB has made its own productions on a regular basis, as well as performances for events organised by other entities. They have accompanied the Cofradía de La Caída with the BSCB, with which they have also performed symphonic concerts, as in the multidisciplinary show Carmen at the Plaza de Toros in Baeza. Moreover, the CPB participates in liturgical celebrations, sacred music concerts and Christmas shows.

Orquesta Sinfónica Ciudad de Baeza. The AMCB’s musical project, from its inception, contemplated the organization of a Symphony Orchestra and on March 9, 2014, at the Teatro Montemar in Baeza, we were able to witness the culmination of this dream. Formed by professionals from all over the Spanish geography, the OSCB joins the already consolidated Symphony Orchestras of the province. Conducted by Abdón López Santos from its origins, it has collaborated with soloists such as the oboist Cecilio García, the violinists Elena Martínez and Irene Ruiz, and the soprano Juany Moreno. Its repertoire includes music from the Baroque to the 20th century.
