Between Italy and Spain: chamber music at the Court of Madrid

The dynastic and diplomatic relations between the 17th-century European courts resulted in the movement of composers between countries. There were several musicians who travelled abroad and who brought with them the musical style characteristic of other regions. This program focuses on three composers who are examples of this movement between nations and who also were connected to the Court in Madrid: Andrea Falconieri and Giovanni Antonio Pandolfo Mealli, both Italian composers who came to Spain and worked at the Court in Madrid, and Bartolomé de Selma y Salaverde, a Spanish composer who moved to Italy.
