The splendour of Italian polyphony: The polychoral technique

This choir celebrates its 25th anniversary of its foundation with a program that presents three emblematic pieces of Italian choral music. The first of them, the mythical Mass of Pope Marcelo by G. P. da Palestrina, is a six-voice Mass that became a musical paradigm after the Council of Trent. The famous Miserere of Gregorio Allegri, in spite of the penalty of excommunication enacted by the Pope to those who edited t or performed it, was copied down by Mozart after listening to the work only once. Then his father sold the score to an English musicologist for publication. The final work, Gabrielli’s Iubilate Deo, is a two-choir display of joy.
